Urinary Tract Infections

A Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection of the lower urinary tract. UTIs are often referred to as bladder infections or cystitis. Women are at a greater risk of developing a UTI than men because the female urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the outside of the body) is shorter, and therefore provides less of a barrier to the entry of bacteria. There are things that you can do, such as maintaining good hygiene and drinking cranberry juice or taking a cranberry supplement, to reduce the risk of getting a UTI.
