Q. Can I take other nutritional supplements along with TheraNatal products?
Certain other supplements can be taken along with TheraNatal products. For example, some women may benefit from a calcium supplement, such as CalMag Thins
. However, you should not take any type of multivitamin or prenatal while taking a TheraNatal product. If you have a question about other nutritional supplements and whether they are safe to take along with a TheraNatal product, ask your healthcare provider. Q. I have trouble swallowing pills. Will I be able to take TheraNatal products?
The tablets and softgels in TheraNatal products are relatively small in comparison to most other prenatal supplements. If you are new to the TheraNatal program and your doctor did not give you a sample, please call us at (800)449-4447 to request one.
Q. Will TheraNatal products cause constipation?
TheraNatal products should not cause constipation. While high doses of iron and calcium may cause constipation, TheraNatal products do not contain high doses of either nutrient. TheraNatal Core and OvaVite tablets contain 18 mg of iron, the amount recommended for women of reproductive age (and appropriate while trying to conceive and during early weeks of pregnancy). TheraNatal Plus and Complete tablets contain 27 mg of iron, the amount recommended for women during pregnancy. These amounts of iron should be well tolerated. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation or stomach upset are not expected in women taking less than 45 mg of iron per day. Further, TheraNatal products contain just 140 mg of calcium, which is quite low and should not cause any constipation.
However, constipation is common during pregnancy. If you do experience constipation, try increasing the amount of water you drink and eating a high-fiber diet (rich in vegetables, fruits, beans, and whole grains). If the problem persists, check with your doctor about adding an over-the-counter stool softener such as docusate (i.e., Colace®).
Q. Since TheraNatal products contains iodine, can I take them if I am allergic to shellfish?
Shellfish allergy is not related to iodine. There is no shellfish in any of the TheraNatal products.
TheraNatal products contain iodine because iodine requirements are increased during pregnancy and lactation. The Institute of Medicine recommends a daily intake of 220 mcg of iodine during pregnancy and 290 mcg during lactation, and the American Thyroid Association recommends taking a dietary supplement with 150 mcg of iodine during pregnancy and lactation.
If you have reacted to radiocontrast material or antiseptics which contain iodine, you may also be able to safely take TheraNatal products even though they contain iodine. These reactions are commonly confused with sensitivity to iodine or shellfish, though studies have shown that they are not related.
If you have any of these allergies or sensitivities, please discuss with your doctor whether the ingredients in TheraNatal products are safe for you.
Q. What is the source of DHA in the DHA softgel?
The DHA softgel contains 300 mg of DHA from pharmaceutical-grade omega-3 fish oil. This high-quality fish oil is molecularly distilled and highly purified. Every lot of TheraNatal DHA softgels is tested for freedom from contaminants such as mercury, lead, and PCBs by the International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) Program. IFOS has established the 5-Star rating system, which ranks products from poor (1 star) to exceptional (5 stars). If you are allergic to fish, the highly purified fish oil (anchovy, sardine, tuna) in the DHA softgel may or may not be safe for you. If you are allergic to fish, please consult with your allergist.
Q. What kind of gelatin is used to make TheraNatal softgels?
The gelatin used to make the DHA softgels (TheraNatal Plus, Complete, and Lactation) and the coenzyme Q10
softgels (TheraNatal OvaVite) is certified BSE-free (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) bovine gelatin. In other words, the source of the gelatin used is certified to contain no mad cow disease.
Q. How will TheraNatal products be shipped?
TheraNatal products are shipped first class mail (USPS). As part of the Theralogix auto-refill program, a refill will be shipped every three months, scheduled to arrive just before you run out.
Q. Why are TheraNatal products sold through an auto-refill program?
The Theralogix auto-refill program is designed to help assure the ongoing benefit of continued supplementation prior to conception and throughout your pregnancy. This also allows for the convenience of shipments sent in a timely manner directly to your home. Every three months, you will be shipped a re-supply of your TheraNatal product, and your credit card will be charged automatically. Q. Is this product gluten-free?
Yes. This product is gluten-free. Theralogix products do not contain any ingredients with gluten. Further, each Theralogix product is tested by NSF International for content accuracy, purity, and freedom from contaminants. During this testing process, each Theralogix product is also tested to confirm that there is no gluten present.
Q. What does the date printed on my Theralogix product mean?
A. Some Theralogix products list a MFRD ON (manufactured on) date. This is the month and year that the supplement was manufactured. The MFRD ON date indicates the freshness of the product. Other Theralogix products list an EXP (expiration) date. Theralogix is moving toward listing EXP dates on all products. In general, Theralogix recommends using products within 2 years from the date of manufacture.
