Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is TheraCran?

A.

TheraCran is a standardized, high-potency cranberry supplement. It is the first and only cranberry supplement available that has been independently tested and certified to contain the high level of proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids needed to decrease the adherence of bacteria to the urinary tract lining. TheraCran is the only cranberry supplement that you can be sure contains the same active ingredients as 10-12 ounces of cranberry juice cocktail.

Q. How is TheraCran different than other cranberry products?

A.

TheraCran is the first and only cranberry supplement that has been standardized and independently certified for PACs and other flavonoid content. This means that TheraCran is the only cranberry supplement that you can be sure contains the same active ingredients as 10 ounces of 27% cranberry juice cocktail. Furthermore, TheraCran is the first cranberry supplement to use a new high-potency cranberry powder, containing at least 2.5% proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids. Until now, even the best cranberry supplements on the market have contained cranberry powder with only 1.0-1.5% proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids. As a result, it may take 6-8 capsules per day of these other supplements to get the recommended amount of active ingredients. Because TheraCran provides a more concentrated dosage of proanthocyanidins, only two capsules per day (one in the morning and one in the evening) are needed to provide the optimal dosage (30-35 mg) of these compounds.

Q. What are proanthocyanidins?

A.

Proanthocyanidins (PACs) are the compounds that are considered the active ingredients in cranberries. The particular type of proanthocyanidins found in cranberries has the ability to bind to E. coli bacteria, thus preventing it from sticking to the bladder wall. This causes the bacteria to be flushed out of the body in the urine instead of sticking to the bladder and causing a urinary tract infection. Once the bacteria has attached to the bladder wall, however, cranberries cannot help, and an antibiotic is needed.

Q. Are there any side effects from taking TheraCran?

A.

No, taken at the recommended dosage of two capsules per day, no side effects should occur. Very high doses of cranberry products could potentially result in diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Q. Will TheraCran interact with my medications or other dietary supplements?

A.

There are no known dietary supplement interactions with TheraCran. It is safe to take with other dietary supplements. When taken at the recommended dosage, TheraCran is not likely to interact with any prescription medications. There is a possible interaction, however, between cranberry juice and warfarin (coumadin), a blood thinner, although studies have not shown any interaction. Individuals taking coumadin should take TheraCran only under a physician's supervision, and should have their INR (international normalized ratio) closely monitored.

Q. How is TheraCran different from drinking cranberry juice?

A.

Two TheraCran capsules per day have almost no calories but provide the same bioactivity as drinking 10-12 ounces of 27% cranberry juice cocktail every day. While TheraCran capsules are virtually calorie-free and sugar-free, 10-12 ounces of juice contain approximately 175-200 calories. Taking in the extra calories and sugar every day can add up over time, and can result in weight gain. The added sugar may have a negative effect if you have an existing yeast infection. Therefore, patients watching their weight (or blood sugar levels) will benefit from taking TheraCran over drinking cranberry juice.

Q. What is the recommended daily dosage of TheraCran?

A.

The recommended daily dosage of TheraCran is two capsules per day. This provides 30-35 mg of proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids, which is the dose that has been shown to promote optimal urinary tract health.* Because the effect of cranberries may wear off after about 10-12 hours, it is best to take TheraCran twice a day (one capsule in the morning, and one capsule in the evening). Capsules can be taken with or without food.

Q. What is the "MFRD ON" date on the bottom of my Theralogix bottle? When will my supplements expire?

A.

The MFRD ON date is the month and year that the supplement was made. Most nutritional supplements that are properly stored (in a cool dry place unless otherwise stated on the bottle) last well beyond two years from the manufacture date. Using your nutritional supplements within two years of the manufacture date will ensure their potency.
